I                                                                                                                                       IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE
                                                                                                                                                                        3/18/20

Effective March 19 we will no longer allow clients into the lobby or exam rooms. Please stay in your car and call us when you arrive. When prompted, a veterinary technician will come out to your car and bring your pet into the hospital. One of the staff Veterinarians will then engage you by phone to discuss your concerns and to do a physical exam of your pet. Once a treatment plan is agreed upon, your pet will be returned to your car along with medications as needed. A member of out front desk staff will then arrange payment with you, again by phone.  We are also looking into telemedicine services, so that may be an option as the situation evolves.

We greatly appreciate your cooperation with this temporary inconvenience. Its being done to protect the health and well being of both your family and our staff.

As before, the situation with COVID-19 is continuously evolving. We will inform you of any changes in our policies should they happen.

COVID 19 Procedures at Chestnut Street Animal Hospital

                                                                                        3/16/20

In an effort to mitigate the risk of exposure to COVID 19 for our clients and staff while also providing the best possible care for your pets, we are implementing the following policies:

1. We will be reducing our daily appointments to decrease the number of people passing through our clinic and give our staff more time to disinfect between appointments. We will not have evening or Saturday appointments. We encourage you to check in daily as our hours may vary as the situation continues to unfold.
2. Please call us from your car when you arrive for your appointment. We will come to your car when the doctor is ready to see your pet. We request that you limit the number of people accompanying your pet to one or two. If you prefer to wait in your car while we examine your pet, we can accommodate you.
3. If you or someone in your household is sick and your pet needs to be seen, please find someone else to bring your pet to the clinic.
4. If you need to pick up medications or food for your pet, please pre-pay over the phone. On arrival to the clinic, please call and we will bring them out to you in your car. Alternatively, you can go to our website, chestnutstreetah.com, and order medications and food to be delivered to your home. Hills food products can be delivered without a delivery charge.
5. For surgeries, we will be scheduling drop-off and pick-up times. This will decrease the number of people in the clinic at any given time.
6. There is currently no evidence that your pet can be infected with or transmit COVID 19 to people. However, the virus could be on the surface of your pet just like it could be on a door knob, table top, etc. For more information, go to the AVMA website – FAQs about COVID 19 for pet owners: www.avma.org/resources-tools/animal-health-and-welfare/covid-19

As the COVID 19 outbreak evolves, recommendations from the federal and state governments are likely to change. We will adjust our daily operations accordingly. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Are Grain Free Diets Linked to Heart Disease?

Many clients are calling to ask questions about the recent New York Times article, "Popular Grain-Free Dog Foods May Be Linked to Heart Disease."  While the US Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine and veterinary cardiologists are currently investigating this, Tufts Clinical Nutrition website, Petfoodology, has a good article to help you understand this new information.
